How To Create Your Vision Board

Vision Board

Creating a vision board offers a range of benefits, both psychological and practical - it is also a creative and powerful way to visualise your goals and aspirations for the upcoming year.

The image above is of my vision board, which I update each year and regularly throughout the year as I reach milestones, change direction, and/or add new aspirations.

The top right image from 2016, when I weighed 76KG, motivated my 2022 goal to reach 76KG from 81KG. I successfully dropped a further 5KG by December 2023, weighing 71KG – my lightest weight in 20 years.

Some other highlights:

  • Las Vegas image symbolises completing The Speed Project in 2017, reminding me that I am capable of achieving lofty goals.

  • Client logos inspire me to attract further customers of a similar calibre.

  • Tracksmith Hares and Boston Unicorn sticker motivate me to run fast and qualify for major races; achieved qualifications for London, Boston, Chicago 2025, and New York 2024 this year.

  • Queens head motivates me to save £’s.

  • 4:21/K pace target for a marathon gold time (3:03:28) in 2023; achieved a silver time of 3:05:34, aiming to improve further in 2024.

  • Thank-you card from an athlete inspires continuous improvement as a coach.

  • Boston and London race bibs serve as reminders of strength and capability.

  • Books motivate reading and self-development.

  • Be More You flyer encourages supporting mental wellbeing in the running community through social media, running, and online webinars.

Remember that every decision and action you take is a vote for or against that person you are becoming.

Votes in favour = quicker route to your destination

Votes against = you’ll be performing with the handbrake on

So, what’s it going be in 2024?

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you create a personal vision board for 2024:

1. Reflect on Your Goals:

  • Take some time to reflect on your goals, dreams, and aspirations for the upcoming year. Consider different aspects of your life, such as personal development, career, relationships, health, fitness, and hobbies.

2. Gather Supplies:

  • Collect materials for your vision board. You will need a poster/board, magazines, scissors, glue, pins, markers, and any other decorative items you'd like to use.

3. Create a Positive Atmosphere:

  • Find a quiet and comfortable space where you can focus without distractions. You might want to play some uplifting music or light a candle to create a positive atmosphere.

4. Find Images and Words:

  • Flip through magazines and cut out images, words, and phrases that resonate with your goals. Look for visuals that represent the life you envision for yourself in 2024.

5. Select a Theme:

  • Consider choosing a theme for your vision board to give it a cohesive and organised look. Your theme could be based on a specific aspect of your life or a general feeling you want to capture.

6. Organise and Arrange:

  • Lay out your cutouts on the poster/board before gluing them down. Experiment with different arrangements until you find a layout that feels right for you. You can organise your vision board by categories or create a collage-style arrangement.

7. Add Personal Touches:

  • Include personal photos, quotes, or any other items that have special meaning to you. This will make your vision board more personalised and meaningful.

8. Glue/Pin Everything Down:

  • Once you are satisfied with the arrangement, glue/pin the images and words onto the poster/board. Be sure to secure everything well so that your vision board stays intact.

9. Add Visualisation Elements:

  • Enhance your vision board by incorporating visualisation elements such as positive affirmations, colours that evoke certain emotions, or symbols that represent your goals.

10. Display Your Vision Board:

  • Place your completed vision board in a location where you'll see it regularly, such as on a wall in your bedroom or office. This will serve as a constant reminder of your goals and keep you motivated throughout the year.

11. Regularly Review and Update:

  • Take time throughout the year to review your vision board. Celebrate the achievements you've made and consider updating it with new goals or aspirations as the year progresses.

Creating a vision board is a personal and creative process, so feel free to adapt these steps to suit your preferences and style. The key is to make it a representation of your dreams and aspirations for the upcoming year.

Wishing you all the best for 2024!
