World Mental Health Day 2022

Equality for Mental Health

Each year we create a global event, inviting runners, and communities from around the world to help us raise awareness and smash the stigma surrounding mental health, one conversation at a time.

Over the past 2 years, more than 50 running communities and thousands of runners from across the globe have supported our efforts in raising awareness and normalising the conversation around mental health.

This years' theme is Mental Health in an Unequal World, and our slogan is "Equality for Mental Health". For those of us experiencing mental health, we live in an unequal world. There is still a stigma that surrounds mental health, discrimination, and limited access to support. with this in mind, and with your support we want to raise the profile of mental health in the running community.

The dates of the campaign shall run between Monday 10th and Sunday 16th October,2022.

How can you and your community get involved?

Runners

Runners everywhere are invited to take part in this initiative, regardless of whether you are a member of a crew or not. All you need to do is run a 5K, 10K or a Half Marathon between Monday 10th, and Sunday 16th October, 2022. This can be a run from your training plan, a one off run, or taking part in a community run, or local race, for example a Parkrun in your area.

Mental Wellbeing Exercises

Pre/Post run we invite you to create a safe space for runners to talk about their mental wellbeing.

We have created a check-in guide, with several exercises that you can choose from to start the conversation around mental health with your crew, community, friends, and family etc.

These exercises include our signature wellbeing check-in, two words and a gratitude option.

Click here to download the guide and feel free to share amongst your community.

Socials and Hashtags

After your run/event post an image or story on your socials, tag us and use the following hashtags: #runforequality #bemoreyou #runthrough

We shall repost on our socials and with your help, reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

As part of our Equality For Mental Health Program to mark World Mental Health Day we are launching The Big Mental Wellbeing Check-In on Monday 10th October at 6:30pm on Zoom, and we're inviting runners everywhere to come and share how you are really feeling.

What is The Big Mental Wellbeing Check-In?

A mental wellbeing check-in hosted by myself - which will cover topical concerns, giving you a voice to share your thoughts and feelings, this will also be an opportunity to network with likeminded runners, and help normalise the conversation around mental health in the running community - one conversation at a time.

This is a safe space, where you can feel comfortable in being your authentic self without fear of judgement, a place where you can come to listen, be heard, or just be present to the moment, and learn new skills to improve your mental wellbeing and outlook on life.
